I am board certified in adult psychiatry and I have extensive experience with a wide range of mental health problems including mood and anxiety disorders, addiction, schizophrenia, and dementia-related disorders.

I am a native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of Georgetown University where I majored in philosophy. I attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where I obtained an M.D, as well as a Ph.D. from the Department of Pathology. I completed my residency training in psychiatry at Yale University. I then returned to the Washington area for several years to do basic and clinical research at the National Institutes of Health where I served as Senior Staff Fellow; Program Chief of Geriatric Psychopharmacology; and Chief of the Adult Psychopathology Branch. I subsequently spent more than ten years in industry research developing novel medicines for the treatment of many neuropsychiatric conditions including depression, schizophrenia, ADHD, PTSD, chronic pain, and dementia. I now focus almost exclusively on private practice, but I maintain involvement in clinical research.

My goal is to bring the latest scientific advances to patient care. I strive to make available cutting edge pharmacological and somatic treatments along with the most up-to-date evidence-based practices. In addition, I offer a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, with emphasis on approaches informed by principles and practices of mindfulness.
